Single knot
一つ結び hitotsu musubi
An overhand knot in one corner (or 2 ends held as one) to close a bag side, shorten a corner or make a stopper.
- Bend the tip of B up and back over itself into a loop.
- Push the tip behind the loop and out through its middle.
- Pull the tip and the base apart to close the loop.
- Slide the knot to where you want it and pull it firm.
- Done: the finished single knots on a wrapped bag.
How to undo it
Push the tip back into the knot to loosen it, then pull the loop open and draw the tip out.
Mistakes
- Tying too close to the tip leaves nothing to grip and the knot slips off.
- Pulling it very tight in thin fabric makes it hard to undo; stop at firm.
