Basket Wrap: Square Basket Liner

かご包み(角かご敷き) kago tsutsumi (kaku kago shiki)

Use a medium, large or x-large furoshiki, at least 68 cm. Knot: Single knot.

Basket Wrap: Square Basket Liner, finished
  1. Lay the furoshiki inside up as a diamond, corner A pointing at you. B points right, C away from you, D left.
  2. Place the basket in the centre, its long sides facing you and away.
  3. Tuck corner C (far) down into the basket so it lines the far half.
  4. Tuck corner A (near) into the basket the same way. You should now see the basket lined, with B and D stretched out at the ends.
  5. Tie a single knot in corner D (left), right at the rim. Make the knot close to the basket so it holds the lining snug.
  6. Tie a single knot in corner B (right) the same way. You should now see the basket lined, with a small knot at each end like handles.
  7. Check the 2 knots close up: one single knot at each end of the basket. You should now see the lining pulled snug, with a knot sitting right at the rim on each side.
