Wreath Wrap: Spiral Band

リース包み(らせん巻き) rīsu tsutsumi (rasen maki)

Use a medium or large furoshiki, at least 68 cm. Knot: Square knot, Single knot.

Wreath Wrap: Spiral Band, finished
  1. Lay the furoshiki inside up as a diamond and fold corners A and C to the centre. A (near) and C (far) tips meet in the middle; B and D stay pointed.
  2. Fold one long side over to the middle, then the other on top. Keep the folds straight from B to D. The 2 long sides now meet in the middle.
  3. Fold the strip in half lengthwise into a long narrow band. The band ends up about a quarter of the folded width: roughly 12 cm on a 68 cm furoshiki. You should now see a long narrow band with corner B at one end and D at the other.
  4. Tie end B around the top of the ring in a single knot. Leave a short tip standing up above the knot.
  5. Wind the band around the ring in a spiral, ending back at the top. Overlap each turn a little so the ring is fully covered. You should now see the ring wrapped all the way round, with B and D standing up at the top.
  6. Tie B and D in a square knot at the top of the ring. Cross the ends and tie once, then cross them the other way and tie again. You should now see a fully wrapped wreath with a flat knot at the top.
