Long Package Wrap: Rolled with Twisted Tie

長物包み(巻き・ねじり結び) nagamono tsutsumi (maki, nejiri musubi)

Use a small or medium furoshiki, at least 45 cm. Knot: Single knot, Twisted rope (handle twist).

Long Package Wrap: Rolled with Twisted Tie, finished
  1. Lay the furoshiki inside up as a diamond, corner A pointing at you. B points right, C away from you, D left.
  2. Place the box near corner C (far), its long side facing you. Leave about a hand's width of fabric between the box and C. You should now see the small box lying near the far corner.
  3. Fold corner C (far) down over the box toward you.
  4. Roll the box toward you in the furoshiki, all the way over corner A (near). Leave B and D lying out straight at the 2 ends; do not fold them in. You should now see a firm roll with B sticking out at the right end and D at the left end.
  5. Twist corner B (right) into a tight rope, then lay the rope along the top of the roll from right to left (follow the arrow). Start where B leaves the end of the roll and twist all the way to the tip. Pull the rope taut so it presses the roll closed.
  6. Tie the tip of B and corner D in a square knot at the left end. Tie once, then tie again crossing the other way. You should now see a compact roll with the rope along its top and a small knot with 2 ears at the left end.
