Twisted rope (handle twist)

ねじり nejiri

Twist a corner into a tight rope before tying it, for a strong, neat handle or strap.

  1. Twist D tightly in one direction, from the object to the tip.
  2. Twist B the same way.
  3. Hold both twists and tie the tips in a square knot.
  4. Check the handle: 2 ropes meeting in a knot at the top.
  5. Done: the finished twisted rope handle on a wrapped box.

How to undo it

Untie the knot at the tips first; the ropes then untwist by themselves.
