Box Wrap: Twisted Handle

箱包み(ねじり持ち手) hako tsutsumi (nejiri mochite)

Use a small, medium or large furoshiki, at least 50 cm. Knot: Square knot, Tie once (half knot), Twisted rope (handle twist).

Box Wrap: Twisted Handle, finished
  1. Lay the furoshiki inside up as a diamond and place the box in the centre. Corner A points at you.
  2. Fold corner A (near) up over the box.
  3. Lift corners B (right) and D (left) up beside the box, and lift corner C (far) straight up behind the box. A stays folded over the box. You should now see the box covered at the front, with B, C and D rising around it.
  4. Tie B and D once across the top of the box, in front of corner C. Corner C (far) stays standing straight up behind the tie. You should now see one tie on top, long B and D ends out to the sides and C standing up.
  5. Twist the ends of B and D, each on its own, then fold corner C (far) down over the front of the box. Twist each end into a rope; keep them long, they become the handle. You should now see two twisted ropes out to the sides and C lying over the tie and the front of the box.
  6. Tie the twisted ends of B and D in a square knot above the box. Leave room under the knot for your hand to make a handle. You should now see a twisted ring handle on top and C draped over the front.
  7. Check the handle close up: 2 twisted ends tied in a knot above the box. You should now see an arched twisted handle with a flat knot at the top and corner C folded over the front.
