Scarf: Twisted Choker

スカーフ巻き(ねじりチョーカー) sukāfu maki (nejiri chōkā)

Use a medium or large furoshiki, at least 68 cm. Knot: Square knot, Twisted rope (handle twist).

Scarf: Twisted Choker, finished
  1. Lay the furoshiki inside up as a diamond, corner A pointing at you. Use 68–70 cm (futa-haba) or larger.
  2. Fold corner A (near) up onto corner C (far) to make a triangle.
  3. Fold the point down to the long edge, then keep folding into a band. Each fold is about 10 cm; stop when the band is about 10 cm wide. You should now see a long band with B at one end and D at the other.
  4. Hold end D still and twist end B round and round. Twist in one direction only, following the arrow.
  5. Keep twisting until the whole band is a firm rope. You should now see a tight rope with B and D at the ends.
  6. Bring the rope round to the front of your neck, cross the ends and let B and D hang down. Hold the ends so the twist does not unwind.
  7. Tie B and D in a small square knot at the front of your neck. Tie once, then tie again crossing the other way. You should now see a small knot at your throat with 2 short ends.
  8. Turn the rope round your neck until the knot sits at the back. Hold the rope loosely while you turn it so the twist stays tight. You should now see an even twisted choker at the front, with no knot showing.
