One Bottle Wrap: Pointed Hood with Base Band

一本瓶包み(とんがり頭巾) ippon bin tsutsumi (tongari zukin)

Use a medium or large furoshiki, at least 68 cm. Knot: Square knot, Twisted rope (handle twist).

One Bottle Wrap: Pointed Hood with Base Band, finished
  1. Lay the furoshiki inside up as a diamond and stand the bottle in the centre. Corner A points at you.
  2. Lift corner D (left) up and over the bottle top to corner B (right). Keep the furoshiki taut over the bottle top so it forms a point.
  3. Bring corner A (near) around the front of the bottle and C (far) around the back. Smooth the furoshiki flat against the bottle as you go, keeping the point on top. You should now see the bottle covered by a pointed hood, with 2 ends free near the base.
  4. Cross A and C at the front of the base and wrap them around to the back. Twist each end a little as it goes around so it forms a rope.
  5. Tie A and C in a square knot at the back of the base. Tuck the short ends under the twisted band so they don't show. You should now see a pointed hood and a twisted band all round the base.
  6. Smooth the twisted band so it sits level all round the base. Close-up of the base: the band is a twisted rope, and the knot is hidden at the back. You should now see an even twisted band with no knot showing at the front.
