Folding Umbrella Cover

折り畳み傘カバー oritatami kasa kabā

Use a medium furoshiki. Knot: Single knot.

Folding Umbrella Cover, finished
  1. Lay the furoshiki wrong side up.
  2. Fold it corner to corner into a triangle, fold along the near side.
  3. Lay the umbrella along the folded edge. You should now see a triangle, point away from you, with the umbrella along the near fold.
  4. Fold the far point down over the umbrella, to the near edge. This leaves a straight far edge, so the roll ends neatly.
  5. Roll the umbrella away from you in the furoshiki.
  6. Keep rolling until the umbrella is fully enclosed.
  7. Tie a single knot in the furoshiki tight against each end of the umbrella. You should now see the umbrella fully covered, with a furoshiki tail at each end.
  8. Tie the two end tails together in a square knot to make a loop. You should now see a loop above the roll, closed by a flat square knot.
  9. Slip the loop over your bag's handle, so the umbrella sits across the front of the bag.
