Large Object Wrap: Double Layer

大物包み(二重) ōmono tsutsumi (nijū)

Use a large, x-large or xx-large furoshiki, at least 90 cm. Knot: Square knot, Single knot.

Large Object Wrap: Double Layer, finished
  1. Lay the larger (outer) furoshiki inside up, flat on the table. Lay it as a diamond, one corner pointing at you. Use a furoshiki about one size up from the inner one, e.g. 100 cm with a 70-90 cm inner one.
  2. Lay the smaller (inner) furoshiki inside up on top, as a diamond. Corner A points at you, B right, C away, D left. It is smaller than the outer one, so a band of the outer shows all round.
  3. Place the box upright in the centre, its wide face toward you. C is now hidden behind the box. You should now see the box standing on the dark furoshiki, with the light one showing underneath.
  4. Lift corners A (near) and C (far) up over the top of the box. Hold them together just above the middle of the top edge.
  5. Tie A and C in a square knot on top of the box. You should now see a flat knot on top, with corners B and D lying flat left and right.
  6. Roll the box toward you so the knot ends at the bottom front, and let corners B (right) and D (left) hang down flat against the sides. The box is now upside down with the knot just peeking out at the bottom front; B and D come out at the top of each side. You should now see the box covered in dark furoshiki, the knot peeking out at the bottom and B and D down the sides.
  7. Lift the outer furoshiki's near and far corners up over the top of the box and tie them in a square knot. The outer furoshiki's left and right corners stay flat on the table. You should now see a flat knot on top, with the outer furoshiki's left and right corners still spread out.
  8. Tie the outer furoshiki's left corner and D in a square knot at the middle of the left side. Fold the outer corner up the side to meet D, tie once, then tie again crossing the other way.
  9. Repeat step 7a on the right side with the outer right corner and B. You should now see the dark layer showing at the top, a knot on top and a knot at each side.
