Emergency Arm Sling

防災時の三角巾 bōsaiji no sankakukin

Use a large furoshiki. Knot: Single knot.

Emergency Arm Sling, finished
  1. Fold the furoshiki corner to corner into a triangle.
  2. Place the triangle between the injured arm and the chest, long edge running down the body.
  3. Bring the upper end up over the shoulder on the uninjured side and around behind the neck.
  4. Bring the lower end up over the forearm to the shoulder on the injured side.
  5. Tie the two ends in a square knot at the side of the neck, adjusting the height so the forearm is level. You should now see a flat square knot at the side of the neck, not on the spine, with the forearm level.
  6. Draw the point at the elbow snug against the arm.
  7. Tie an overhand knot in the elbow point to close it. You should now see the elbow fully held, with no gap at the back of the sling.
