Wreath Wrap: Two Knots

リース包み(二つ結び) rīsu tsutsumi (futatsu musubi)

Use a medium or large furoshiki, at least 68 cm. Knot: Square knot, Single knot.

Wreath Wrap: Two Knots, finished
  1. Lay the furoshiki as a diamond and place the ring on it, a little toward the far corner. Corner C (far) reaches past the top of the ring; corners D and B point left and right. On a 68-70 cm furoshiki use a ring about 20 cm across; for a 25-30 cm ring use a 100 cm furoshiki.
  2. Bring corner A (near) up the middle of the ring to the top. The furoshiki folds to a point on each side of it at the bottom of the ring.
  3. Tie A and C in a square knot on top of the ring. Cross the ends and tie once, then cross them the other way and tie again. You should now see a small flat knot at the top of the ring with the furoshiki hanging down below it.
  4. Twist the right half of the furoshiki (corner B side) into a rope. Twist it tightly from the knot downward so it stays thin.
  5. Wrap the rope down around the right side of the ring. Spiral it over and under the ring until the end reaches the bottom. You should now see the right side of the ring covered in a spiral, the end hanging at the bottom.
  6. Repeat steps 3-4 with the left half (corner D side), around the left side. Spiral in the mirror direction so both ends meet at the bottom of the ring. You should now see the whole ring covered, with 2 ends meeting at the bottom.
  7. Tie the 2 ends in a square knot at the bottom of the ring. Right end over left and tie once, then left over right and tie again. You should now see 2 small knots, A and C at the top and B and D at the bottom of the ring.
