Shoulder Bag: Teardrop Knotted Handle

肩掛け袋(しずくバッグ) katakake bukuro (shizuku baggu)

Use a large or x-large furoshiki, at least 90 cm. Knot: Square knot, Single knot.

Shoulder Bag: Teardrop Knotted Handle, finished
  1. Lay the furoshiki outside up as a diamond. Corner A points at you; B is right, C is far, D is left.
  2. Fold corner A (near) up onto corner C (far) to make a triangle. Line the edges up; the outside of the furoshiki is now on the inside.
  3. Tie a single knot in corner B (right), close to its tip. Knot both layers of the corner together. You should now see a firm knot at the right end of the triangle.
  4. Repeat step 3 with corner D (left). You should now see a single knot at each end of the triangle.
  5. Turn the bag inside out so the knots go inside. Reach in between A and C and push the knotted corners through, as the round arrow shows.
  6. Hold corners A and C straight up above the bag. You should now see a teardrop-shaped bag with no knots showing and 2 points on top.
  7. Tie the tips of A and C in a square knot. Tie right at the tips so the loop below the knot is as long as possible. You should now see the two points joined by a flat knot on top of the bag.
  8. Carry the bag by the knotted handle, or slip the handle over your shoulder. You should now see a teardrop bag with the flat knot on top and the handle running down into the bag's sides.
