Hand Carry Bag: Hand Wrap

手提げ袋 tesage bukuro

Use a medium or large furoshiki, at least 70 cm. Knot: Square knot, Tie once (half knot), Single knot.

Hand Carry Bag: Hand Wrap, finished
  1. Lay the furoshiki outside up as a diamond. Corner A points at you; B is right, C is far, D is left.
  2. Fold corner A (near) up onto corner C (far) to make a triangle. Line the edges up; the outside of the furoshiki is now on the inside.
  3. Tie a single knot in corner B (right), close to its tip. A and C now lie together at the lower point. Knot both layers of corner B together. You should now see a firm knot at the right end of the triangle.
  4. Repeat step 3 with corner D (left). You should now see a single knot at each end of the triangle.
  5. Turn the bag inside out so the knots go inside. Reach in between A and C and push the knotted corners through, as the round arrow shows.
  6. Hold corners A and C straight up above the bag. You should now see a rounded pouch with no knots showing and 2 points on top.
  7. Cross A over C and tie once where the points leave the bag. Pull snug so the opening closes; leave both ends long. This tie keeps the bag shut when you lift it by the loop. You should now see a closed neck with 2 long ends standing up.
  8. Tie the tips of A and C in a square knot to make a handle loop. Leave a loop between the neck and the new knot large enough for your hand. You should now see a round bag with a loop handle and a flat knot on top.
