Gift Wrap: Gathered Corner Bow

贈り物包み(角寄せ蝶結び) okurimono tsutsumi (sumi yose chō musubi)

Use a small or medium furoshiki, at least 45 cm. Knot: Square knot, Bow.

Gift Wrap: Gathered Corner Bow, finished
  1. Lay the furoshiki inside up as a diamond and place the flat box in the centre. Corner A points at you.
  2. Lift corners A (near) and C (far) together above the box. Hold them side by side in one hand.
  3. Tuck corners B (right) and D (left) under the box. Keep A and C gathered in one hand while you tuck. You should now see 2 peaks above the box and the sides closed.
  4. Tie A and C in a square knot on top of the box. Pull the knot down snug against the top of the box. You should now see a knot on top with 2 ends standing up.
  5. Bend each end down and tuck it into the knot to make 2 loops.
  6. Pull the 2 loops apart and shape them into a bow. You should now see a small bow on top of the box.
  7. Fluff the 2 loops so they sit evenly over the knot. Close-up of the finished bow: 2 rounded loops over the knot, with the tips tucked out of sight. You should now see a round bow on the centre of the box and no loose ends.
