Two Bottles Wrap: Decorative Ring Top

二本瓶包み(飾り輪) nihon bin tsutsumi (kazari wa)

Use a medium or large furoshiki, at least 72 cm. Knot: Square knot, Twisted ring.

Two Bottles Wrap: Decorative Ring Top, finished
  1. Lay the furoshiki inside up as a diamond and stand both bottles side by side in the centre. Corner A points at you; line the bottles up from left to right.
  2. Lift corners A (near) and C (far) and tie them in a square knot above the necks. Tie close to the tips, so a long strand of fabric runs from each side of the necks up to the knot. You should now see a knot high above the necks on 2 long strands, and corners B and D hanging.
  3. Twist each strand below the knot into its own rope, so the 2 ropes bow into a ring. Twist from the necks up to the knot; pinch the strands together at the necks so the ring takes a heart shape. You should now see a twisted, heart-shaped ring between the necks and the knot.
  4. Wrap corners B (right) and D (left) around the bottles in opposite directions. Pass one corner in front and the other behind, pulling both snug. The picture shows the bottles from the left side, so both corners appear on that side: one passes in front, the other behind.
  5. Bring B and D round to the front and cross them at mid-height. Keep the furoshiki flat and tight around both bottles.
  6. Tie B and D in a square knot at the front, halfway up the bottles. Cross the ends and tie once, then cross them the other way and tie again. You should now see a front knot at mid-height and a twisted ring on top.
