Scarf: Triangle Wrapped Collar

スカーフ巻き(三角襟巻き) sukāfu maki (sankaku erimaki)

Use a medium or large furoshiki, at least 68 cm. Knot: Square knot.

Scarf: Triangle Wrapped Collar, finished
  1. Lay the furoshiki inside up as a diamond, corner A pointing at you. Use 68–70 cm (futa-haba) or larger.
  2. Fold corner C (far) down onto corner A (near) to make a triangle.
  3. Hold the long edge to the front of your neck and take B and D behind it. Point hanging down, D in your right hand and B in your left; cross them at the back of your neck. You should now see the triangle under your chin and both ends behind your neck.
  4. Bring B and D back to the front of your neck. Keep the collar edge high and snug as you wrap.
  5. Tie B and D in a small square knot at the front of your neck. Tie once, then tie again crossing the other way. You should now see a small flat knot under your chin.
  6. Fold the top of the collar down over the knot and smooth it snug and even. Smooth it so the knot is hidden. You should now see a snug collar with the triangle point at your chest.
  7. Tug the collar edge down evenly all the way round your neck. Close-up of the collar: a smooth folded band with the point lying flat on your chest. You should now see an even collar with no knot showing and the point centred.
