Padded Carry Wrap

さお包み sao tsutsumi

Use a medium or large furoshiki, at least 68 cm. Knot: Square knot, Tie once (half knot).

Padded Carry Wrap, finished
  1. Lay the furoshiki inside up as a diamond, corner A pointing at you. B points right, C away from you, D left.
  2. Place the flat box in the centre of the furoshiki.
  3. Fold corner C (far) over the box toward you. Lay it flat on the box top; its tip ends near the middle.
  4. Fold corner A (near) over the box, on top of C. Its tip reaches the far edge of the box top. You should now see the box covered, with B and D lying out left and right.
  5. Lift the box with the furoshiki and pull corners B and D up. Hold B in your right hand and D in your left.
  6. Cross B over D above the centre of the box and tie once. Wrap B under D and pull snug; the 2 tails now point toward you and away from you. You should now see one tie in the middle of the box, with one tail pointing toward you and one away.
  7. Tie B and D again at the centre to finish a square knot. Cross them the other way from the first tie and pull snug against the box. You should now see a flat knot in the middle of the box with 2 tails.
  8. Lay one tail toward the near edge and one toward the far edge, and tuck each under the box. Fold each tail down over the edge and push its tip well under the box; the box's weight holds it. You should now see a band running across the box from near to far, with the knot in the middle.
