One Bottle Wrap: Diagonal Roll

一本瓶包み(斜め巻き) ippon bin tsutsumi (naname maki)

Use a medium or large furoshiki, at least 68 cm. Knot: Square knot.

One Bottle Wrap: Diagonal Roll, finished
  1. Lay the furoshiki inside up as a diamond and lay the bottle on its side near corner C (far). Lay the bottle across the furoshiki, left to right, with its neck toward corner B (right). Set it a little right of centre so D has the longer tail.
  2. Fold corner C (far) toward you over the bottle. Tuck the tip of C under the bottle so it is caught when you roll.
  3. Roll the bottle toward corner A (near) until all the furoshiki is wrapped around it. Roll firmly so the furoshiki stays tight on the bottle. You should now see a long tube with corner D sticking out on the left and B on the right.
  4. Stand the bottle upright and bring corner D (left), now at the base, up the side of the bottle to the neck. Corner B (right) sticks out at the neck. Keep D flat against the bottle as you lift it.
  5. Wrap corners B and D around the neck in opposite directions. Pass each end once around the neck so they meet at the front.
  6. Tie B and D in a square knot at the front of the bottle's shoulder. Cross the ends and tie once, then cross them the other way and tie again. You should now see the bottle fully wrapped with a flat knot at the shoulder.
  7. Pull ends B and D sideways so the shoulder knot lies flat. Close-up of the knot: it sits on the front of the shoulder, below the neck. You should now see 2 flat loops with short ends pointing left and right.
