One Bottle Wrap: Classic

一本瓶包み ippon bin tsutsumi

Use a medium or large furoshiki, at least 68 cm. Knot: Square knot.

One Bottle Wrap: Classic, finished
  1. Lay the furoshiki inside up as a diamond and stand the bottle in the centre. Corner A points at you; B is right, C is far, D is left.
  2. Lift corners A (near) and C (far) and tie them in a square knot above the bottle. Keep the furoshiki snug against the bottle as you tie. You should now see a knot on top of the bottle, with B and D hanging at the sides.
  3. Wrap corners B and D around the bottle, crossing them at the back. Bring each corner back around to the front, as the arrows show.
  4. Tie B and D in a square knot at the front of the bottle. You should now see a bottle with a knot on top and a second knot low on the front.
  5. Pull ends B and D left and right so the front knot lies flat. Close-up of the front knot: 2 loops side by side, ends pointing sideways. You should now see a flat knot across the bottle, not standing up.
