One Book Wrap

本包み(一冊) hon tsutsumi (issatsu)

Use a small or medium furoshiki, at least 50 cm. Knot: Square knot.

One Book Wrap, finished
  1. Lay the furoshiki inside up as a diamond and set the book in the centre. Corner A points at you; B is right, C is far, D is left. The drawing shows the book open.
  2. Fold corner D (left) in to the book as a wide strip, as the arrow shows. Fold the furoshiki flat so the strip's edge meets the side of the book.
  3. Repeat step 2 with corner B (right), then close the book on the strips, as the arrows show. You should now see the book lying on 2 folded strips.
  4. Fold corner A (near) down and under the book, as the arrow shows, so it lies flat beneath the near edge.
  5. Fold the 2 strips over the book from the left and the right. Turn each strip's corner tip outward, as the 2 arrows show.
  6. Pull up corner A at the left end and corner B at the right end.
  7. Repeat step 6 with D at the left end and C at the right end. You should now see 4 corners standing up, 2 at each end of the book.
  8. Tie A and D in a square knot at the left end of the book.
  9. Repeat step 8 with B and C at the right end. You should now see a flat wrapped book with a flat knot at each end.
  10. Stand the book upright with one knot on the spine side.
