Large Object Wrap: Twisted Ring Handle

大物包み(ねじり輪持ち手) ōmono tsutsumi (nejiri wa mochite)

Use a large or x-large furoshiki, at least 90 cm. Knot: Square knot, Twisted ring.

Large Object Wrap: Twisted Ring Handle, finished
  1. Lay the furoshiki inside up as a diamond, corner A pointing at you. B points right, C away from you (hidden by the box), D left.
  2. Place the box upright in the centre, its wide face toward you.
  3. Lift corners A (near) and C (far) up to the top of the box and tie them in a square knot. Leave the 2 ends long; they become the handle. You should now see a knot on top with 2 long ends, and B and D out to the sides.
  4. Bring corners B (right) and D (left) around to the front of the box. Pull them snug so the furoshiki hugs the sides.
  5. Tie B and D in a square knot in the middle of the front. You should now see a flat knot on the front of the box.
  6. Twist ends A and C each into a tight rope. Twist both the same way, from the knot up to the tip.
  7. Tie the tips of A and C in a square knot to close the ring. Close-up: 2 twisted ropes curve up into a ring, joined by a small knot at the top. You should now see a ring-shaped handle on top and a knot on the front.
