Large Object Wrap: Front Knot with Top Handle

大物包み(前結び・持ち手付き) ōmono tsutsumi (mae musubi, mochite tsuki)

Use a large, x-large or xx-large furoshiki, at least 90 cm. Knot: Square knot.

Large Object Wrap: Front Knot with Top Handle, finished
  1. Lay the furoshiki inside up as a diamond, corner A pointing at you. B points right, C away from you (hidden by the object), D left.
  2. Stand the flat object upright in the centre, its wide face toward you. Use this for a framed picture, an art board or a thin box.
  3. Lift corners A (near) and C (far) and hold them together above the object. The furoshiki now covers the front and back of the object like a tent. You should now see a triangle of fabric over the object, with B and D lying out to the sides.
  4. Bring corners B (right) and D (left) around to the front of the object and tie them in a square knot in the middle. Let A and C rest together above the object; you need both hands for B and D. You should now see a flat knot on the front of the object.
  5. Tie A and C in a square knot above the object to make a handle. Leave a little slack between the knot and the object so you can hold it. You should now see a knot at the front and a handle knot on top.
