Hand Carry Bag: Ring Handles

手提げ袋(リング持ち手) tesage bukuro (ringu mochite)

Use a medium or large furoshiki, at least 70 cm. Knot: Square knot.

Hand Carry Bag: Ring Handles, finished
  1. Lay the furoshiki inside up as a diamond and set 2 rings on it. Corner A points at you; B is right, C is far, D is left. Use rings about 12 cm across (bag rings or large bangles).
  2. Pass corners A (near) and D (left) up through the first ring. Push both tips up through the ring from below, then fold them over the ring's top and down its outer side.
  3. Tie A and D in a square knot just below the ring, on its outer side. You should now see the first ring held in a flat knot at one side of the furoshiki.
  4. Pass corners B (right) and C (far) up through the second ring. Hold the second ring above the furoshiki, opposite the first one.
  5. Repeat step 3 with B and C at the front of the second ring.
  6. Bring the 2 rings together and carry the bag by them. Turn the knots to the outside so they show as bows. You should now see a round pouch hanging from 2 ring handles, each held by a bow.
