Gift Wrap: Twisted Rose Knot

贈り物包み(バラ結び) okurimono tsutsumi (bara musubi)

Use a small or medium furoshiki, at least 45 cm. Knot: Square knot, Rosette.

Gift Wrap: Twisted Rose Knot, finished
  1. Lay the furoshiki inside up as a diamond and place the flat box in the centre. Corner A points at you.
  2. Lift corners A (near) and C (far) together above the box. Hold them side by side in one hand.
  3. Fold corners B (right) and D (left) down and tuck them under the box. Tilt the box a little to tuck them, and keep holding A and C up. You should now see 2 peaks above the box and the sides closed.
  4. Tie A and C in a square knot on top of the box. The box's weight holds B and D in place underneath. You should now see a knot on top with 2 ends standing up.
  5. Twist each end tightly into a cord. Close-up: turn each end in the direction of its arrow until it forms a tight cord.
  6. Coil each twisted end around the knot and tuck the tip under. Close-up: wind each end down around the knot in the direction of its arrow. You should now see a rose-like coil sitting on top of the box.
  7. Press the 2 coils down so they sit like rose petals around the knot. Close-up of the finished rose: each twisted end is coiled flat around the knot with its tip hidden underneath. You should now see 2 round coils side by side on the centre of the box.
