Gift Wrap: Double-Layer Cube

贈り物包み(二重) okurimono tsutsumi (nijū)

Use a medium or large furoshiki, at least 70 cm. Knot: Square knot.

Gift Wrap: Double-Layer Cube, finished
  1. Lay the larger outer furoshiki flat, then the inner one on top as a diamond, and place the box in the centre. Both furoshiki inside up; the outer furoshiki can be the same size or one size larger. Inner corners are A-D; outer corners are A2-D2 in the same positions.
  2. Tie inner corners A (near) and C (far) in a square knot on top of the box. You should now see a knot on top with inner B and D loose.
  3. Lift inner corners B (right) and D (left) up to the knot.
  4. Tie inner B and D in a square knot over the first knot. The outer furoshiki still lies flat: A2 nearest you, B2 right, D2 left, C2 behind the box. You should now see the box wrapped in the inner furoshiki with a flower-like knot on top.
  5. Tie outer corners A2 and C2 in a square knot around the base of the inner knot. Leave the inner knot's petals showing above it.
  6. Wrap outer corners B2 and D2 around the sides of the box.
  7. Tie B2 and D2 in a square knot on top, below the inner petals. You should now see a light-wrapped cube with the dark knot showing as a layered flower on top.
