バンダナ(ねじり鉢巻き) bandana (nejiri hachimaki)

Use a small or medium furoshiki, at least 54 cm. Knot: Square knot, Tie once (half knot).

Bandana: Twisted Crossover Headband, finished
  1. Lay the furoshiki inside up as a diamond, corner A pointing at you. B points right, C away from you and D left.
  2. Fold corners A (near) and C (far) in to meet at the centre.
  3. Fold the furoshiki over and over into a narrow band. Fold it the same way as the folded headband (Bandana 1): stop when it is about 5 cm wide, with B and D at the ends. You should now see a long flat band with B at one end and D at the other.
  4. Lay the middle of the band at your nape, under your hair. Hold B in your right hand and D in your left, and bring both up past your ears. In the pictures you face the wearer, so B is on the left of the picture.
  5. Cross B over D on top of your head. B comes from the left of the picture and lies on top, ending on the right. Keep the band flat across your forehead.
  6. Twist B and D around each other once on top of your head. Pull until the twist sits snug at the crown.
  7. Carry B and D down behind your ears, as the arrows show. You should now see a twist at the crown with both ends going down behind your ears.
  8. Tuck the ends of B and D under the band behind your ears. Push each end up under the band so it lies flat; your hair covers it. You should now see a headband with a neat twist at the crown and no ends showing.
