Goldfish Wrap

金魚包み kingyo tsutsumi

Use a small or medium furoshiki, at least 50 cm.

Goldfish Wrap, finished
  1. Lay the furoshiki inside up as a diamond and place the box just in front of corner C (far). Set the box's long side left to right, a hand's width from C.
  2. Fold corner C (far) toward you over the box. Tuck the tip of C under the near side of the box.
  3. Roll the box toward corner A (near) until all the furoshiki is wrapped. Roll firmly; the tip of A ends up under the tube. You should now see a long tube with D at the left end, B at the right and A peeking out below.
  4. Fold end B (right) back under the tube toward end D (left). Fold where the box ends, so the box sits at the fold.
  5. Twist the tube once where it meets the box to form the fish's waist. Spread ends B and D out flat to make a fanned tail. You should now see a fish: the box as the body on the right and a fanned tail on the left.
