Rokuyata lattice
六弥太格子 rokuyata-gōshi

Kabuki actor pattern of interlaced squares, each drawn as three nested lines, named after Ichikawa Danjūrō VIII's role as Okabe Rokuyata. Like other actor patterns it was dyed on costumes and on fans' souvenir tenugui.
Edo, 19th century; Ichikawa Danjūrō VIII
One of the yakusha monyō (actor patterns) that kabuki stars launched in the late Edo period. The MAK in Vienna, which holds a 19th-century Ise katagami stencil of it, says the name dates from Ichikawa Danjūrō VIII (1823–54) appearing as the warrior Okabe Rokuyata. Fans bought tenugui and yukata in their favourite actor's pattern.
Still sold as a kabuki pattern on tenugui and yukata.
