万筋 manzuji

Fine stripes

Very fine, perfectly even stripes, said to be so many they number ten thousand; one of the five classic Edo komon, plain-looking from afar and quietly smart up close.

Edo-period komon (stripe, or suji, family)

A stripe komon so fine that from a distance it looks like plain colour. With the three formal komon and daishō arare it makes up the five classic Edo komon (goyaku).

One of the Edo komon goyaku.
