Snowstorm

吹雪 fubuki

Snowstorm

Scattered snowflakes whirling in a blizzard; a winter motif that is also worn in summer to look cool.

Edo period (snow motifs generally)

Snow motifs were already part of court taste, and in the Edo period snow rings and snow crystals became popular with townswomen. Scattered flakes whirling across the fabric (fubuki) belong to this Edo townsmen's style of seasonal pictorial pattern, worn in winter and, for a cool look, in summer.
