Large and small hail

大小霰 daishō arare

Large and small hail

Dots of two sizes scattered like falling hail; one of the five classic Edo komon. Hail (arare) komon was the house pattern of the Asano clan.

Edo-period komon; arare (hail) komon

Scattered dots of mixed sizes cut into katagami. Daimyo houses claimed komon as their own: dictionaries name the Shimazu with same and the Asano with arare. Daishō arare is one of the five classic Edo komon.

One of the Edo komon goyaku.
