Watermelon

Watermelon is the taste of a Japanese summer; a cheerful seasonal motif and a nod to the famous watermelon wrap (suika tsutsumi).

Modern summer motif; date watermelon reached Japan not established here

Watermelon is a familiar Japanese summer fruit, and the beach game suikawari (blindfolded watermelon splitting) is a summer custom; a national association even promoted it from 1991. As a design motif it is informal and modern, and on furoshiki it also nods to the suika-tsutsumi wrap for carrying a watermelon.

A cheerful summer motif for yukata, tenugui and children's goods.
