Scrolls

One of the takaramono (treasures); rolled scrolls stand for wisdom, learning and literary skill.

Part of the takarazukushi treasure set, from Chinese Buddhist and 'miscellaneous' treasure lists

Rolled scrolls are one of the objects in takarazukushi, the 'collection of treasures' pattern that grew out of the Chinese Eight Buddhist Treasures and the 'miscellaneous eight treasures'. The scrolls stand for wisdom and learning. Treasure sets are especially common in Edo- and Meiji-period decorative arts and formal kimono.
