Wind

Streaming wind lines show movement and the changing seasons, and the wish for things to go smoothly.

Wind is rarely drawn by itself in traditional Japanese design; it is usually shown indirectly, through blown leaves, bending grasses or streaming lines. The wind god Fūjin, born of Izanami in the Kojiki, carries a bag of winds whose imagery traveled along the Silk Road from the Greek Boreas through Central Asia and China. The swirling stylised wind lines used here are a modern graphic treatment.
