両面 ryōmen

Reversible

The two faces carry different colours or patterns, joined back to back. Wraps that turn the corners over, such as knotted ears, flowers, bows and twists, show the back as a contrast, and you can choose which face goes outside.

Modern furoshiki trade

Furoshiki made of two layers joined back to back, each face a different colour or pattern, are sold as ryōmen (両面, both faces) or reversible furoshiki; Musubi (むす美), Sanyo Shoji and other makers carry ranges. They suit wraps that fold or tie the corners so the back shows on knots, ears and twists.
