Gathered to centre

The design flows from the edges in towards the centre. Wrapped, the motifs gather towards the top of the parcel around the knot.

Furoshiki trade term

Naka-yose, 'drawn to the middle', is the converse of shihō-nirami: motifs flow from the edges towards the centre, so they gather around the knot on top of the parcel. Designing for the wrapped state, with motifs placed for where they will show, is described as the traditional approach to furoshiki pattern.
