Diagonal stripes

Diagonal stripes

Stripes run corner to corner. In a basic diagonal wrap they come out straight (level or upright) on the parcel, the opposite of plain stripes.

Diagonal stripes are hard to weave and on fabric were usually dyed or printed rather than woven, so they are less common than straight stripes in traditional textiles. On a furoshiki they are a practical choice: because most wraps set it on the diagonal, corner-to-corner stripes come out straight on the finished parcel.
