Border

縁取り fuchidori

Border

A plain or patterned field is framed by a band along all four edges. When wrapped, the band ends up on the corners and knot ends, outlining the folds.

Traditional textile edging

Fuchidori is the everyday Japanese word for edging or framing, used for borders on textiles, ceramics and paper alike. On a furoshiki the band ends up along the folds and corners, so makers use it to outline the shape of the parcel.
