1. Lay the furoshiki inside up as a diamond, corner A pointing at you. B points right, C away from you, D left. Keep a thin cord or ribbon beside it.
2. Lay the box in the centre, its long side running from D to B. You should now see the box lying lengthwise, with an end pointing toward each of D and B.
3. Fold corners B (right) and D (left) up against the 2 short ends of the box. They stand up like ears; A stays flat in front. You should now see 2 corners standing up at the box ends and A lying flat.
4. Tie the cord once around corner B at the right end, on top of the box. Gather B where it meets the top of the box and tie the cord round it there, with a bow.
5. Run the cord along the top and tie it once around corner D at the left end. Gather D the same way and tie the cord round it with a bow, keeping the cord straight along the top. You should now see the cord running along the top, tied at both ends, and A still flat.
6. Fold corner A (near) up over the front of the box and corner C (far) up over the back, so they meet on top. Bring A up first, then C, so the 2 corners overlap above the cord.
7. Tie A and C in a square knot on top, over the cord. You should now see the box smoothly covered with one knot in the middle of the top.
