1. Lay the furoshiki inside up as a diamond, corner A pointing at you. B points right, C away from you and D left.
2. Fold corner A (near) in to the centre.
3. Fold corner C (far) in to the centre, meeting A. You should now see a six-sided shape with A and C meeting in the middle.
4. Fold the furoshiki over and over from one folded edge into a narrow band. Make each fold about 4-5 cm wide; a 50 cm furoshiki takes about 6 folds. B and D end up at the two ends. You should now see a long flat band with corners B and D at its two ends.
5. Lay the middle of the band over the top of your head. Hold one end in each hand and let the ends hang down behind your ears, under your hair.
6. Tie B and D in a square knot at the nape, under your hair. Pull it snug but not tight, then let your hair fall over the knot. You should now see a flat band across your head with no knot showing from the front.
