Bag Cover: Covering

カバーリング kabāringu

Use a large furoshiki, at least 90 cm.

Bag Cover: Covering, finished
  1. Lay the furoshiki reverse side up and set the bag in the centre, turned so one handle faces the edge between corners A and B and the other faces the edge between C and D. Musubi step 1: place the bag in the centre of the furoshiki.
  2. Pick up corners A and B. Musubi: hold both ends on one side.
  3. Lift A and B up the side of the bag and pass them through the handle on that side from the inside, so both tips come out at the front of the handle. Smooth the furoshiki against the bag as you lift. C and D stay flat on the table for now.
  4. Lift C and D up the other side of the bag and pass them through the other handle from the inside in the same way. The furoshiki now covers the bag on all sides, its top edge folding over the rim. You should now see two tips coming out at each handle.
  5. Tie A and B in a square knot at the front of their handle. Tuck the loose ends under the knot so it sits flat and puffs out (follow the arrow). You should now see a flat knot at the front of that handle.
  6. Tie C and D the same way at the front of their handle, then smooth the furoshiki where it folds over the rim so it hangs evenly all round. You should now see the bag covered, a knot at each handle and the handles free to carry.
