1. Fold one corner of a second furoshiki in to its centre. Use a second furoshiki, about 70 cm (futa-haba) for an adult. Lay it inside up.
2. Fold the opposite corner in, then fold the left side in again. Keep the folds parallel so the furoshiki narrows evenly.
3. Fold the furoshiki in half along its length into a long strip. You should now see a narrow strip about as long as the diagonal (about 1 m).
4. Lay the main furoshiki inside up as a diamond and place the items in the centre. Corner A points at you; B is right, C is far, D is left.
5. Tie corners B (right) and D (left) in a square knot above the items. Lift both corners straight up, tie once, then tie again crossing the other way. You should now see a pouch hanging from 1 knot, with corners A and C hanging free.
6. Pass the middle of the strip under the top knot. Pull it through until equal lengths hang on each side.
7. Tie the left strip end to corner A in a square knot. Bring the end around in a loop, as the left arrows show, and tie it to the point of A. You should now see a loop on the left joining the top knot to corner A.
8. Repeat step 7 with the right strip end and corner C. Then slip one arm through each loop and wear the bag on your back. Shorten a loop by retying its side knot closer to the corner. You should now see 2 shoulder loops, each held by a small knot at a lower side of the pouch.
