行儀 gyōgi

![Orderly dots](https://www.furoshiki.com/swatches/gyogi.svg)

Tiny dots set in neat slanting rows, like people bowing in line; one of the three formal Edo komon (with same and kakudōshi), so it suits formal and understated gifts.

Edo-period komon stencil dyeing (Ise katagami, drilled with the kiribori awl)

Edo komon grew out of the kamishimo, the formal dress of samurai, when domains adopted fixed fine patterns as their own. Gyōgi, with same and kakudōshi, became one of the three most formal komon (sanyaku); with a family crest it can be worn as semi-formal kimono.

One of the Edo komon sanyaku (with same and kakudōshi).
