Leaves, ginkgo, pine needles and nuts gathered by the wind; evokes deep autumn, with a hint of good fortune being 'blown together'.

Late Edo period

A scatter of fallen leaves and petals as if swept together by the wind: pine needles, maple, ginkgo, with chrysanthemum, cherry or plum. It became fashionable in dyed textiles in the late Edo period and is said to show a Japanese sensibility that values things falling and fading as much as full bloom. The same word names an assorted dish or a box of mixed dry sweets.

An autumn motif on kimono, tenugui and wagashi.
