Two contrasting colours or patterns come in from opposite sides and meet: subdued and bright, old and young, spring and autumn, red and white, large and small. In a flat wrap you choose which side shows.

Modern furoshiki trade term

Deai, 'meeting', is a furoshiki makers' layout in which two contrasting colours or patterns come in from opposite sides and meet, often pairing opposites such as red and white or spring and autumn. Pairing contrasting halves has precedents in katamigawari kosode, but deai as a named layout is a maker's term.
