# Tie once (half knot)

ひと結び hito musubi

The first half of every square knot or bow; used alone where a later step holds it in place.

1. Cross B over the front of D, then take B down behind D and up through the gap.
2. Pull both ends until the tie sits snug on the object.

## How to undo it

Loosen the twist with a finger and pull the ends back the way they came.

## Mistakes

- Leaving it loose: pull both ends until the tie sits snug on the object before the next step.
- Relying on it alone to carry weight: a single tie slips open; finish with a square knot or bow.
